Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, 39, has launched a book of photographs collected as part of her Hold Still national lockdown project. Kate is a keen amateur photographer and to celebrate the book’s launch Kensington Palace shared a stunning new portrait of the Duchess smiling with her camera in hand.

Kensington Palace released the new picture and news about the book on Twitter.

A string of tweets about the book read: “When we look back at the COVID-19 pandemic in decades to come, we will think of the challenges we all faced – the loved ones we lost, the extended isolation from our families and friends and the strain placed on our key workers.

“But we will also remember the positives: the incredible acts of kindness, the helpers and heroes who emerged from all walks of life, and how together we adapted to a new normal.

“Through Hold Still, I wanted to use the power of photography to create a lasting record of what we were all experiencing – to capture individuals’ stories and document significant moments for families and communities as we lived through the pandemic.”

The tweets continued: “Thank you for the early prototype of the Hold Still book @NPGLondon!

“This new book will bring together the final 100 Hold Still portraits that provided a unique record of our shared and individual experiences of the first UK lockdown.”

Body language expert and author Judi James has analysed the new photo of Kate for Express.co.uk and claimed it shows the Duchess is back to her old self after Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah rocked the monarchy earlier this month.

During her sitdown with Oprah, Meghan claimed Kate had made her cry in the lead up to the royal wedding.

According to Judi, damaging claims made by the Sussexes during their Oprah interview impacted on Kate’s confidence.

Judi said: “Up until the Oprah interview, Kate had always been the shining face of optimism in the royal Firm through the pandemic, blending signals of energetically motivational and upbeat body language with all the necessary moments of caring and concern.”

“It has been Kate bouncing in her seat as she chats on video link and Kate seen gesticulating openly and laughing with people she has seen on her visits.

“Then there was that small hiatus recently when we saw her apparently looking less assured, returning to some of her barrier gesture rituals that she had previously dropped.”

Judi added: “Hopefully though, this stunning photo shows Kate back on form again, looking casual, natural and spontaneous while also managing to show respect to her royal status.”

“This smile looks unforced and genuine, with her eyes narrowed and her mouth open to display the upper teeth and her cheeks rounded.”

According to Judi, Kate’s passion for photography comes through in the new snap.

She said: “This is a pose captured in the moment rather than performed and held for the camera and before anyone suggests her own camera is just being held just as a prop, I have checked with a professional photographer and it seems her way of holding it looks correct.”

The analyst added: “She is no mean photographer herself and this talent does seem to reflect in this image.”

Judi claimed the new photograph of Kate conjures up memories of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.

She said: “There are echoes of Diana here too, suggesting a form of homage.

“With her swept-back hair and wearing what looks like William’s jumper to judge from the baggy sleeves, Kate is very much doing her own thing here in terms of charisma but that frilly-neck shirt under the jumper and the emphatic placing of Diana’s engagement ring to appear to be a respectful nod rather than an attempt at copying a signature look.”
