KFC launches first ever rum using secret spice recipe – and you can buy it

  • KFC has joined forces with rum rebels, Dead Man’s Fingers, to create its first ever alcohol and boy, it's 'finger licking good'.

As we all know, Colonel Sander's famous recipe for his Original Recipe Kentucky Fried Chicken has been kept in a vault in Kentucky and rumours have it that only two to three people know the full recipe.

And in the UK, there are two factories supply the spice blends for all KFC restaurants – but only each of them makes half of the blend.

But the fast food giant has partnered with Dead Man's Fingers from Cornwall to create a one-of-a-kind 11 Herbed and Spiced Rum.

The full recipe still remains a secret, but KFC reveals it has the perfect balance of our herbs and spices including black and white pepper, together with the freshly fried goodness of our golden breading that makes our chicken taste so damn good.

Infused with the unmistakable notes of Dead Man’s Fingers spiced rum, the new tipple also has whispers of creamy caramel, vanilla and nutmeg.

I'm no expert in alcohol but when I was offered to try the rum, the smell of treacle toffee hit me, along with some sweet vanilla custard notes.

I thought about making a cocktail out of it, but I decided to go for a simple rum on the rocks at the end.

It's strange that I couldn't help but to imagine getting a taste of fried chicken but it's actually nothing like it.

The second my first sip of the drink went down, I felt the burning sensation in my throat straight away.

There's a peppery taste linger in my mouth but it's not too overpowering and I'm sure this would go well with a bucket full of fried chicken.

To see in this collaboration, and as a tribute to Dead Man’s Fingers coastal origins, the unlikely duo opened the doors to an exclusive pop-up Chicken and Rum Shack in the heart of Margate on September 1 and 2.

Located right on Margate's iconic seafront, fans got to try some of their special cocktails including Zinger Punch, The Colonel’s Colada and Fingers Lickin’ Good, all made with Dead Man’s Fingers Rum.

This summer’s spiciest new collab! A bespoke rum blend, brimming with the flavours of KFC’s iconic 11 herbs and spices and Cornish notes of Dead Man’s Fingers Spiced rum

Dead Man’s Fingers x KFC 11 Herbed and Spiced Rum gives notes of black and white pepper, treacle toffee, vanilla, butterscotch all mixed up with some seriously stand out spices.

Some who visited the shack during the pop-up event shared their thoughts, with one saying: "Had a fabulous afternoon. There is such a thing as a free lunch and a free punch. Thank you!"

"That's some of my favourtie flavours," another shared.

For those who coudln't make the journey and fancy to try the rum, you can order the rum straight to your door by visiting The Drop Store or on Amazon.

To be enjoyed with a splash of cola or in a cocktail – as long as you’ve got your glass of 11 Herbed and Spiced Rum in hand and a bucket of chicken in the other, you’re set.

As alternatives, Captain Morgan's delicious Spiced Gold is a good classic rum choice. Just add a slice of lime to create a refreshing tasting alcohol-free drink or pair with Cola as a classic mocktail.

Chocolate lovers might want to try this Rum and Raisin Velvetised Cream from Hotel Chocolat.

The festive alcohol is made with dark and stormy Caribbean rum, balanced by the naturally sweet molasses notes of red raisins. The delicious tasting notes have been velvetised with vodka, dark chocolate and real cream ready to be enjoyed over ice.
