Lori Loughlin teared up while talking about “people who have hit a low in their life” in her first TV appearance since the college admissions scandal.
The “Full House” alum was a guest on KTLA’s “Lead with Love 3 telethon” on Saturday to promote her work with the Project Angel Food charity in Los Angeles.
“It is a community, it is a family, and all the people that work here are just so wonderful. They have welcomed me with such open arms at a time when I was feeling particularly down and broken,” Loughlin, 57, explained.
“That’s how I found a home here, and that’s what I feel like they did for me. And that’s why I’m so proud to be here and working with this organization. Because they really do care. It’s really a community.”
Loughlin added that Project Angel Food is “more than just” feeding people.
“It’s about loving people and helping people,” she said. “I think that is so important.”
A source told Page Six that Loughlin has continued volunteering with the organization after she fulfilled her 100 hours of community service last year.
“She continued to volunteer on a weekly basis, every week, making deliveries. She doesn’t do this for show,” the insider told us.
“She’s very quiet about it, but she shows up every single week. It’s become a weekly thing for her. It’s a part of who she is. She really loves this work.”
Loughlin let cameras follow her for “a day in the life” of a volunteer and explained that she’s been helping pack meals via the organization for over a year.
“My favorite is doing the deliveries,” she said. “I have the same delivery route, once a week, and I see the same people. It’s so nice to make that connection with those people. Often, they are unable to leave their homes.”
The telecast also showed a woman along Loughlin’s route who gushed about the organization while giving Loughlin a hug.
“I literally didn’t eat anything and because of Project Angel Food, bringing foods that cover all bases, and I’m well and happy and healthy, and I have Project Angel Food to thank for that,” she said.
The actress’ non-acting TV return comes just over a month after she made her first red carpet appearance since the highly publicized scandal.
Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, pleaded guilty in May 2020 to bribing daughters Olivia Jade Giannulli and Isabella “Bella” Giannulli into the University of Southern California as fake rowing recruits.
Loughlin and Mossimo, 59, both served time in prison and were released in December 2020 and April 2021, respectively.
