Lionesses captain Millie Bright lead the Lionesses to huge success as they reached the finals of the Women's World Cup this year. And despite a heartbreaking loss to Spain, Millie, who is the captain of the England squad, has been hailed as an inspiration.
Away from the pitch Millie, who turns 30 today, from Killamarsh near Sheffield, said she has "struggled" with different illnesses since being born. including pneumonia and asthma
However her health set backs have not stopped her from becoming a Lioness and making history by joining England women's at the FIFA World Cup final.
Speaking about her previous illnesses, Millie told ITV Sport she feels "lucky" to be where she is today, she said: "I've struggled since I was born. I was eight days old when I had pneumonia, then I had croup, then asthma.
"I'm probably very lucky to be honest to be sitting where I am today and to be fit and healthy."
She added: "It's never crossed my mind that my asthma would stop me playing. Does it create challenges at times? Absolutely.
"But for me I never wanted to use it as an excuse or a reason not to play or train. It's never stopped me."
That wasn't the first time she'd opened up about her childhood, speaking to the Daily Mail back in 2018, she revealed she suffered so much that she needed an ambulance on a weekly basis.
She said: "It was really quite bad. Eventually I had a steroid machine at home to help me but before I was old enough for that I had to get an ambulance whenever I was having an attack in the night. That would happen several times a week
"Getting older, my asthma has settled down a little bit now, but back then I just had to decide whether I would let it stop me playing or not. I managed it well, my mum is experienced in it as well so she helped me through it.
"My mum has got it, my dad too. My nan had emphysema, she died from that and my dad's got it now. Breathing conditions run in the family so we do understand it. It was one of those things that I was not going to let interfere with what I'm doing."
Off the pitch and away from the limelight, Millie is happily dating American performance coach, nutritionist and personal trainer Levi Crew, who she affectionately refers to as her "king"
Although it’s currently unknown exactly how long the couple have been together, their relationship is known to date back to at least 2020, as part of their relationship was long-distance due to the pandemic.
Following the pandemic however, Levi later moved to Surrey where he now resides with Millie.
