Mother whose daughters were murdered by a Satan worshipper before police took selfies with their bodies announces a rally to call for politicians to make the safety of women and girls a priority

A mother whose two daughters were murdered in a London park by a Satan worshipper has announced her plans to host a rally calling on politicians to ‘put women’s and girls safety as a major priority’.

Mina Smallman appeared on Lorraine today to discuss her daughters Nicole Smallman, 27, and Bibaa Henry, 46, who were stabbed to death in the early hours of June 6, 2020 by 19-year-old Danyal Hussein.

Serving Met Police officers Deniz Jaffer, 47, and Jamie Lewis, 33, were standing at the murder scene in when it emerged they had taken pictures of the sisters’ bodies and shared them in WhatsApp groups. 

Mina, from London, has previously said she was ‘repulsed’ by the actions of Jaffer and Lewis, who were both jailed for two years and nine months for misconduct in public office.

Today the 65-year-old revealed her plans to commemorate her daughters via a major rally she plans to hold next year to highlight the importance of safeguarding women and girls, as well as highlight other social issues.

Speaking about the campaigning work she’s done since her daughters were killed, Mina told Lorraine: ‘You know, I started this campaign because [this case] didn’t get the same coverage as say Sarah Everard. 

‘And that’s to do with how things are done in the media…But I think things are beginning to change.’

She added: ‘But the one thing that isn’t changing is you know, a political will to put women’s and girls safety as a major priority. 

‘I’ve met some amazing campaigning groups and to my shame, I didn’t know about many of them until this happened to us.

‘They’re amazing charities, but they’re all fighting over the same pot of money…and they say to me, nothing changes… And I said I really feel it will this time.’

Mina continued: ‘I want to rally that says enough is enough [for] every man woman and child to come out in defence of this and say we’ve had enough.’

The campaigner noted that as well as putting a spotlight on the need to prioritise the safety of women and girls, she wants the rally to highlight other social issues too, including how the cost of living crisis is affecting children.

According to Mina, she is planning to hold the event outside London, most likely in a large city like Manchester or Birmingham. 

Speaking about Mina’s plans, Lorraine said: ‘So this is going to be a rally. This is going to be we’ve had enough. We’ve had enough of this. 

‘We’ve had enough violence against women…Last year, there was a groundswell of people who said this, but it kind of has faded away again.’

She added: ‘It needs people like you to say no, and we’re going to keep talking about it and we’re going to keep pushing.’
