Mum shares exactly how to make filthy bathroom drains look brand new again using tomato sauce

  • A mum cleaned her drain using tomato sauce
  • The drain was filthy with a build-up of mineral deposits
  • It’s believed the acid in the tomato sauce helps removes this

A mum-of-two surprised herself and hundreds on social media by transforming her dirty bathroom drain using tomato sauce.

Amelia and her family moved into a new home and she immediately noticed the drain was badly stained.

After several different cleaning products ‘didn’t work’ to remove the marks, she decided to try the condiment after seeing a viral hack on TikTok.

She covered the drain in the sauce and left it overnight before wiping it off the following morning.

To her amazement the drain was left looking sparkling clean as if it were brand new.

Mum Amelia tried several different cleaning products to remove the drain marks but ‘nothing worked’, so she opted to use tomato sauce and was shocked at the results (drain before)

Amelia shared images of the drain to a popular Facebook group to highlight the transformation and wowed hundreds.

The drain stains are usually a build-up of mineral deposits left because water pools around the area then evaporates.

It’s believed the acid from the tomato sauce helps break down the dirt and build-up – and can also be used on taps and sinks.

More than 2,500 people liked the Facebook post and over 500 left a comment, with many wanting to try it themselves.

‘Omg this so works. I did it to all my drains after seeing this. I was searching to buy new ones!!!’ one wrote.

‘Did this a few weeks ago. Came up awesome!’ anther added.

‘Doing this tonight!’ a third added.

Others were impressed but said they’ll ‘never have tomato sauce ever again’.

‘Wow, imagine what it does to the gut,’ one wrote, another said: ‘Going to try it, but never eating tomato sauce again.’

Does tomato sauce clean stainless steel?

Others have also used tomato sauce to clean a range of surfaces around the home, including:

  • Taps
  • Sinks
  • Stools
  • Utensils
  • Drains

However, some weren’t convinced and accused Amelia ‘lying’ by taking a photo of another clean drain in the house.

‘It’s not the same drain,’ one claimed, another said: ‘Looks like different floor. Look at grout line.’

But others pointed out the ‘grout line’ in the first image is in fact a water line.

Amelia commented on the backlash and found the claims ‘entertaining’ as the same drain is pictured from different angles.
