Netflix released the first trailer for “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” starring Kiernan Shipka, and it looks much spookier than the original “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.”
The teaser shows Shipka’s titular character blowing out her birthday candles, followed by vignettes of the undead, pentagrams and dimly lit school hallways.
It’s a far cry from the original show starring Melissa Joan Hart, which played out like a magical teenage sitcom. Netflix’s “Sabrina” iteration, developed by “Riverdale” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, looks like a dark coming-of-age series that heavily features witchcraft, a take more faithful to the original ‘Sabrina’ comics than the ’90s TV version.
The minute-long trailer has sparked strong reactions on Twitter.
“This new Netflix remake looks creepy,” said one user. “No thanks, I don’t want to be in your coven.”
But others were more supportive of the reboot.
“Yo, Sabrina looks hype as HELL,” wrote one user.
“[I’m] getting ready to stan chilling adventures of sabrina,” another chimed in.
The series premieres on October 26.
