Parents becoming more passionate about sustainability – thanks to their kids, study finds

Nearly four in ten believe their children know more about the environment than they do, and two-thirds have been corrected on how to care for the planet by them.

Kids are also encouraging adults to keep food waste to a minimum, use up their leftovers and even grow their own vegetables at home.

The research was carried out by Sainsbury’s to mark the return of its popular collectable cards and albums in partnership with Disney.

This year sees Disney Heroes take kids on a journey through five unique chapters, including healthy eating and help on being greener day-to-day.

As well as schooling their parents when it comes to helping the planet, kids also encouraged their parents to eat healthier diets – with 68 percent expressing an interest in healthy eating and half even asking for more vegetables at mealtimes.

More than 38 percent of those polled via OnePoll admitted to knowing less than their children about how to be eco-friendly.

Nearly seven in ten (68 percent) wished they knew more on how to live a greener life – and believe their kids are the driving force behind their eco-households.

A spokesman from Sainsbury’s, said: “It’s encouraging to see that kids are expressing an interest and sharing thoughts on how we can all care for the planet better.

“The five chapters on living a greener life and healthy eating are packed full of games that make learning about being environmentally friendly fun for the whole family.

“Knowing how popular the cards and albums are each year, we hope that kids will love this year’s “Heroes on a Mission” theme as much as we do.”

Disney Heroes Collectable Cards will be available to collect in store and online alongside the album until 12th October.
