Prince Charles and the rest of the British royal family are undoubtedly still reeling from Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey. In the interview, the couple explained that they ultimately decided to leave the British royal family due to racism and lack of support.
The pair also explained how harmful the tabloids were to their mental health, with Meghan explaining that she began to have suicidal thoughts as a result.
One of the saddest moments was when Prince Harry revealed the distance that had developed between himself and his father, Prince Charles, as a result of all the things leading up to Megxit and thereafter.
Prince Harry says he feels ‘really let down’ by Prince Charles
Prince Harry has always been close to his father, and he’s praised the older prince in the past for stepping up following Princess Diana’s death. Therefore, to feel unsupported when he and Meghan were asking for help was very challenging for him.
“There’s a lot to work through there,” Prince Harry explained about his relationship with his father. “I feel really let down because he’s been through something similar.”
The prince explained that at some point, as he was trying to discuss an alternative to senior royal life that his father stopped taking his calls, eventually cutting him off financially.
However, he also explained that he would never stop trying to repair the relationship.
Prince Charles is reportedly in a state of despair over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Oprah Interview
Certainly, the things that Meghan and Prince Harry say they experienced as senior royals had to be a lot for members of the British royal family to hear. Prince Charles is said to be in a state of despair.
“For Prince Harry to say that he felt let down by his father must have been a difficult thing to say and hard for Charles to hear,” royal author Sarah Gristwood told Vanity Fair. “Now, just at a time when by and large Charles had started to look like a more popular King than one would have guessed, here’s a major blow to his reputation. That his son felt let down by him. It’s hard to know if Harry is aware of the damage this has done. Did he actually intend to cast this damaging light on his father and his family? We don’t know.”
Prince Charles refused to comment on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah interview
It has been said that Buckingham Palace is currently in crisis mode amid the explosive claims about racism and lack of support that the Sussexes’ made during their interview with Oprah.
Vanity Fair has reported that the various royal households, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, and Prince William’s, have been locked in crisis meetings trying to come up with a response to the damning allegations. However, thus far, the royals have remained silent.
On the morning of March 9, Prince Charles was touring a coronavirus vaccine clinic in London. As he was leaving the clinic, a reporter asked what he thought of the Sussexes interview. The future king paused briefly before continuing to walk out the door.
