Racing tips: All you need for the Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stable Plate Handicap Chase at Cheltenham today

THE Plate is on of the most competitive handicaps of the week.

A maximum field of 24 will race over 2m5f with £110,000 in the prize fund.

Simply The Betts form took a big boost when Imperial Aura won the Novice Handicap on day one.

He is surely well-weighted off 149 and a massive runs looks on the card for Harry Whittington.

But he is short enough in the betting now, and OLDGRANGEWOOD makes greater appeal at the prices.

He has won a couple of big pots by a nose this winter, but he was probably worth more than the winning margin on each occasion.

A mark of 147 should be within reach and we know he goes well over C&D.

Robin Des Foret has caught the eye several times in big handicaps this season. He has undergone a wind op and has to enter calculations.

It's interesting that connections opted to run Deyrann De Carjac here rather than the Novice Handicap on Tuesday, though the New Course will likely suit him better.

Grade 1-winning mare La Bague Au Roi looks on a good mark and ran well in Ireland last time, while last year's winner Siruh Du Lac can't be ruled out, even off 9lb higher and a lay-off.
