Supermarkets including Sainsbury’s and Tesco have loyalty schemes which allows shoppers to earn points on their shopping which can give them access to exclusive rewards. A recent analysis conducted by Which? has revealed which loyalty card scheme is the best and new updates regarding points and rewards.

Sainsbury’s Nectar card
The Sainsbury’s Nectar scheme allows you to earn one point per £1 spent in-store or online at Sainsbury’s. 500 Nectar points are worth £2.50, which you can spend at the till or online using your Nectar card or app.
In addition, you’ll now get weekly personalised offers each Friday, with bonus points on selected purchases.
Specific offers can be viewed on the supermarkets website or the app and new customers can download the app to get started before your card arrives.
To make the most of your Nectar Card points make sure to look out on websites for opportunities where you can make your points go further and receive awards.
Which? says that customers can also collect and spend points with over 400 partners including Argos, eBay, Esso, Amex, the Sky Store and Sainbury’s Bank.
You can also use your Nectar Card on some petrol stations like Esso and this is a great way to get a lot of points when spending a lot on fuel.
Nectar points will now only expire if your account isn’t used for 12 months.
You don’t need to spend points, just collecting them on your shop will keep your account active.

The Tesco Clubcard scheme allows members to collect one point for every one pound they spend in-store or online, and one point for every two pound spent on fuel.
Customers can also collect points through Tesco Bank and mobile too.
Every 150 points you earn is worth £1.50 to spend in store or online, but points are often worth more if you spend them with Clubcard partners, including Alton Towers, Now TV and pizza chain Prezzo.
Tesco has also recently launched a new Clubcard Plus loyalty scheme, which costs £7.99 a month and offers a 10 percent discount on two big weekly shops per month, which is valid in-store only.

The 10 percent is valid across Tesco brands including F&F, Tesco Pet, double data with Tesco mobile and the opportunity to apply for a Clubcard Plus credit card.
The supermarket giant has also changed its policy regarding points due to worried customers thinking they may have lost their points due to the coronavirus.
Tesco Clubcard has extended the period in which customers can use their Reward Partner codes from six months to 12 months from the original order date.
Vouchers that would have expired on May 31 are now valid until November 30.
Clubcard points can be added to customers’ accounts – in store – for dates between 23 March and June 14.
Which? suggest to make the most out of your loyalty card is to maximise the points you earn. You should keep an eye on different store’s websites to spot opportunities to grab double points or bonus points when buying certain products.
Most points-based loyalty cards have a very low return meaning you will need to take advantage of the bonus points if you want to make the most out of your loyalty card.
Which? says: “For example, Tesco Clubcard has Reward Partners that can offer better deals for your points. For example, you can turn every 50 pence of Tesco Clubcard vouchers into £1.50 at Pizza Express.”
