Shakira’s latest song release, Shakira Bzrp Music Sessions 53, in partnership with Argentinian DJ Bizarrap, takes clear aim at ex-boyfriend Barcelona FC footballer Gerard Piqué, as well as his new girlfriend and mother.
Once one of the world’s most glamorous couples, the singer and footballer have now become the pettiest celebrity breakup in years.
The song has broken records as the most watched new Latin song in YouTube history, including savage lyrics such as: “Lots of time at the gym, but your brain needs a little work too” and “I was out of your league, that’s why you’re with someone just like you.”
The singer, 45, appears to be clapping back at Gerard’s new girlfriend, Clara Chia, 23, who is twelve years his junior. This explains another of Shakira’s snipes, where she sings she’s worth “two of 22”, adding: “You swapped a Ferrari for a [Renault] Twingo, you swapped a Rolex for a Casio.” Clara was reportedly 22 when she and Gerard started dating.
Gerard, 35, responded by turning up to work in an £8,000 Renault Twingo in an impressive display of pettiness, as well as boasting about how his new seven-a-side project, the King’s League, had landed a sponsorship deal with Casio — adding that the cheaper watch would “last a lifetime”.
The couple, who share two sons, Milan, nine, and Sasha, seven, split after twelve years together in June 2022, with Shakira left devastated when he confirmed his new romance just three months after he left the family home.
Neighbours reported that the scorned singer blasted out the new song on repeat so Gerard’s mum, Montserrat Bernabéu, could hear. She also put a terrifying life-size witch doll on her balcony, facing her mother-in-law’s house in the same street.
Shakira reportedly found out about her long-term partner allegedly cheating on her after finding anempty jar of jam in the fridge . In the music video to the song Te Felicito, the singer opens the refrigerator, where she finds the song's collaborator Rauw Alejandro's head. The scene has led many fans to believe she found the "truth in the fridge".
Now,The Mirrorreports that according to multiple South American news outlets, this is a replay of what happened when Shakira returned home from her travels to find a jar of jam completely empty in her fridge, despite Gerard and their kids Milan, nine, and Sasha, seven, not being a fan of the flavour.
Rumours the former Barcelona star was having an affair emerged in June 2022, and days later, the couple shocked fans with a joint statement announcing their split.
They added: “For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”
