A communications expert has revealed the deeper meaning behind your favourite pasta shape.

To mark World Pasta Day, communications coach Robin Kermode, from Lancashire, has paired classic pasta shapes with personality types – and revealed that penne lovers tend to be unashamedly practical – but never boring.

They realise that penne pasta is the most eaten pasta shape, but don’ feel the need to break the mould.

Meanwhile, research from Prezzo revealed that Ravioli fans are typically the singletons of the friendship group.

The wholesome pasta choice was likened to the Bridget Jones of pasta – but Kermode urged ravioli lovers to never feel ashamed of their favoured choice.

Meanwhile, fusilli is the party pasta for party people, who can typically be seen with a smile across their face.

Enthusiasts of this corkscrew shaped pasta also said to have high emotional intelligence.

Here, Robin Kermode reveals the top ten pasta shapes in the UK and what they might mean.

Spaghetti – Serene Spaghetti’s

Communications expert Robin reckons that spaghetti lovers are often the most successful among their friends 

The communications expert first assessed those who opt for spaghetti. 

He reasoned that spaghetti eaters are generally meticulous, inquisitive, and often very successful. 

He explained: ‘Their movements are small, they take their time, and they move slowly. 

‘Essentially they are at ease with themselves and demonstrate a level of supreme confidence.’

Rigatoni – Riga-to-the-point

Rigatoni lovers are plain speaking and tell it how it is. Those who choose this pasta type are said to make loyal and no-nonsense friends 

Next, the communications expert delved into the personality traits of those who choose rigatoni.

Robin Kermode said: ‘Eaters of rigatoni pasta are plain speaking. They tell it how it is and don’t suffer fools gladly.

‘They’re people of few words but will be fiercely loyal towards those they care about.’

He concluded that those who enjoy rigatoni will tend to always order it because it’s straightforward and practical.

Fusilli – Fun time Fusilli’s

Fusilli loved are reasoned to be the life of the party – and are often seen with a smile across their face 

Fusilli fans are said to be the life of the party – with their house being the hub for get-togethers.  

Robin said: ‘Simple, unfussy but with a twist. People who order Fusilli are generally smiley, have high energy and show good emotional intelligence. 

‘Their table will be laid out with a certain quirky style and a large twist of fun.’ 

Orzo – Out of the Orzo-nary

Orzo is a less popular pasta choice – and that’s why lovers of this shape consider themselves alternative 

Orzo – a rice shaped pasta, is a less common choice for Brits. 

That’s why the communications expert reasoned orzo lovers to ‘think of themselves as alternative’.  

He explained: ‘This rice-like pasta is ordered by those who break free from mainstream trends and prefer to swim against the tide. 

‘Orzo lovers are at one with nature and are often eco-conscious. Taking very little time to cook, Orzo is the ultimate energy saving pasta for socially aware folk.’

Ravioli – Ravi-lonely

Communications expert Robin likened  the filled pasta shape ravioli to the Bridget Jones of pasta 

Ravioli, a type of pasta with filling that is wrapped in thin pasta dough, is the full package. 

However, Robin likens ravioli to the ‘Bridget Jones of pasta’.  

‘A perfect, wholesome meal for one, favoured by those that are single and happily so.

‘Eaters of Ravioli are fun, outgoing people who bring good vibes. Ravioli is the full package. 

‘It tastes like a treat and makes you feel you’re eating out whilst being cosy, curled up on the sofa at home watching a box set with a glass of wine. Never be too embarrassed to admit you love eating Ravioli on your own.’

Cannelloni – Caring Cannelloni

Those who favour cannelloni are thoughtful people with big hearts – and they make great listeners 

Cannelloni lovers are big-hearted and make great listeners, according to Robin. 

He said: ‘This pasta is for people who don’t do small talk but instead relish in deep conversations. This is not a pasta to be rushed, eaters of Cannelloni take their time.

‘They are thoughtful. They ask questions. And, most importantly, they are good listeners. 

‘They are big hearted people who love life and understand that it’s important to truly connect with friends.’ 

Conchielle – Conscious Conchielle’s

Conchielle lovers tend to be in touch with their emotions – and are comfortable in their own skin 

The shell shaped pasta Conchielle is a popular choice for many.

Robin revealed that those who favour this shape tend to be in touch with their feelings.

He said: ‘They enjoy the company of others but equally like being on their own. They are comfortable in their own skin.

‘They are big on smiling and huge on eye contact. This seashell shaped pasta is often chosen by outdoor types in touch with nature. Perfect following a brisk hilltop walk or when calmly watching the sunset.’

Farfalle – Fair-falle

Farfalle is one of the oldest pasta shapes – and those who favour this style tend to be self-assured 

The bow-shaped pasta farfalle is one of the oldest pasta shapes.

Those who favour this shape are ‘very self-assured’, according to the communications expert.

Robin said: ‘This bow-tie shaped pasta is ordered by stylish, educated, and curious people.

‘Farfalle lovers can be seen as harsh but fair, they don’t stand for any nonsense and are known for following their heads not their hearts.’

Penne – Practical Penne’s

Penne lovers tend to be unashamedly practical – but never boring. They realise that penne pasta is the most eaten pasta shape, but don’ feel the need to break the mould

Next, the communications expert assessed the personality traits of those who choose the most popular pasta shape – penne.  

He said: ‘Penne eaters are unashamedly practical – but are never boring. They have energy and always look for solutions. 

‘They realise that penne is the most popular pasta shape but don’t feel the need to break the mould, living life by the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ motto. Its large surface area picks up a lot of sauce, proving to be a highly efficient pasta shape.’

Linguine – Lively Linguine’s

Linguine lovers are often very successful and confident, according to communication expert Robin Kermode

Lastly, Robin explored the personality traits of those who love the taste of linguine. 

He explained: ‘People who eat Linguine are confident in their life choices and perceive themselves as being supremely successful. 

‘Their voices are strong and handshakes are firm. Unlike this pasta, there is nothing flat about them. 

‘They are proud and rightly believe they should be proud. Often the choice of cyclists on the Tour de France, this is spaghetti for substance and success.’
