Looking younger does not have to cost the earth, and you certainly don’t have to dedicate hours and hours per day to it. Dr Anthony Youn, America’s Holistic Plastic Surgeon, shared the two-minute skincare routine that makes women look “five years younger”.

The expert started off by saying that it is not good enough to cleanse the skin once per day – it must be done twice.

But before even looking at skincare products, it’s important to assess which skin type you have.

Those with drier skin might want to opt for a milkier cleanser, as this will be hydrating and will not remove as much oil from the skin.

Those with oilier skin should instead opt for a foaming cleanser – the more “traditional”, sudsy cleanser.

No matter what your skin type, it’s crucial to avoid one popular product – bar soap – because it will dry out the skin too much.

Dr Anthony Youn assured women that they do not need to spend a fortune in order to have beautiful skin. Cleansers such as Cetaphil will do the trick.

In terms of the ideal morning skincare routine, the expert instructed mature women to wash their faces before applying an antioxidant.

Antioxidants fight free radicals, which are damaging molecules that can attack the body.

These free radicals can be from pollution, being around people who are smoking, and even the foods we eat. He recommended Vitamin C – but make sure it’s not oxidised.

Next, mature women should apply suncream, ensuring that it is at least SPF 30. For an extra hydrating boost, many moisturisers will contain sun protection.

According to the expert, this routine takes just two minutes and will help you look “five years younger”.

It’s essential that mature women do not neglect their skincare in the evenings, especially if they have been wearing makeup during the day.

Cleansing the skin at night is an “absolute must” – nobody wants the makeup, oil and pollution from the day clogging their pores.

Older ladies should then be applying an anti-ageing cream, according to the expert, ideally Retin-A or Retinol based.

For dry skin, a Growth Factor cream may be better, or Peptides for a cheaper option.

The final step in Dr Anthony Youn’s anti-ageing skincare routine is exfoliation, which gets rid of the upper layer of dead skin cells.

According to the expert, those with normal skin should be exfoliating every three days, while those with dry skin should stick to once per week.

The benefits of the exfoliation are many. Not only does this process remove dry and rough skin, it sends a signal to the deeper layer of the skin to exfoliate more quickly. Exfoliation can be done with devices such as Clarisonic, or with a scrub.
