Calling all Swifties: If you’ve ever wondered if you could get paid to devote your life to Taylor Swift, your moment has arrived. USA Today and the The USA Today Network’s newspaper The Tennessean are seeking a uniquely skilled journalist to fill a new role: Taylor Swift reporter.
The outlet released the job posting on Sept. 12, writing in the description that “Swift’s fanbase has grown to unprecedented heights, and so has the significance of her music and growing legacy. We are looking for an energetic writer, photographer and social media pro who can quench an undeniable thirst for all things Taylor Swift with a steady stream of content across multiple platforms.”
This job posting arrives amid our current Swift super-storm, in which the singer-songwriter is seemingly one of the most popular people in the entertainment industry. During the record-breaking success of the North American leg of her critically acclaimed Eras Tour, Swift has also become the first woman to break 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify and continues to top the charts as she releases her album re-recordings. She and AMC Theatres are also releasing an Eras Tour concert film, which broke records for AMC advance ticket sales with $26 million already sold.
The job description for the Swift reporter continues, “Seeing both the facts and the fury, the Taylor Swift reporter will identify why the pop star’s influence only expands, what her fanbase stands for in pop culture, and the effect she has across the music and business worlds. We are looking for a journalist with a voice — but not a bias — able to quickly cultivate a national audience through smart content designed to meet readers on their terms.”
The reporter will cover the most significant moments of the remaining Eras Tour shows, and must travel internationally for the job. The USA Today Network is seeking someone with at least five years of journalism experience; they ask applicants to send in a 1-2 page resume, a video cover letter explaining how they would approach the role, and 4-8 work samples.
The Tennessean is based in Nashville, where Swift relocated to at a young age to pursue her music career. Read more about the job here.
