  • Plus a Noo Noo pair of boots paying homage to the show’s vacuum cleaner

It was announced earlier this year that the Teletubbies are returning for a Netflix reboot, and in another stride forward the colourful children’s characters are now entering the fashion world.

Joining forces with vegan and gender-neutral footwear brand, Tinky-Winky, Laa-Laa, Dipsy and Po have had their personalities imprinted on a selection of colourful, wacky shoes.

The 90s, TV show has collaborated with the footwear brand’s best selling styles including its Mary-Janes range, with prices at starting at £45.

Each pair of shoes has been designed in the tubby colours of purple, green, yellow and red.

Arguably the most daring product of the collection, the £100 Limited Edition ‘Noo Noo’ boot pays homage to the classic show’s friendly vacuum cleaner.

Available in sky blue, the boot features a chunky platform sole and Noo Noo’s googly eyes.

And for the true tubby fan, Koi has created the ultimate tribute boot to green furry favourite, Dipsy, featuring a fluorescent green trim and chain detailing.

Each £90 boot is decorated with its own Dipsy head, fastened at the side for maximum impact.

Koi CEO, Uzair Ahmad, said of the partnership: “We know our customer grew up watching the Teletubbies so we wanted to appeal to their inner child and that nostalgia factor but with a modern spin to make it more palatable and exciting for adults who watched the show.

‘We created a collection that truly reflects the essence of each character which was not only talkable but also stayed true to our ethos.

‘As always, the range had to have a shock factor and it also represents the intrinsically weird and wacky energy of Koi- something that we know resonates with our audience.’

In October it was announced that the popular 90s TV show would be rebooted for Netflix with the new series being narrated by Tituss Burgess.

While the original British show, which ran between 1997 and 2001, was filmed on a real outdoor set in England, the US team’s reboot relies more on CGI.

And the original sun-baby has also had a CGI makeover, which some fans expressed disappointment over when the trailer was released.

Jess Smith, from Chatham, Kent, was selected to be the original giggling baby sun when she was just nine months old.

Koi’s footwear collection has been released shortly after Netflix revealed that it would be rebooting the 90s kids favourite

Koi said that it has tried to stay true to the ethos of each individual character in its footwear designs. £57 platform boots are also part of the Teletubby range

Speaking to the BBC about how she landed the role, the former child star explained: ‘I was being weighed at the hospital. My mum took me and it just happened to be the same time that the producer of the old series had come in and wanted the hospital to get in contact with them if they’d seen any smiley babies.

‘It was just a case of sitting in front of a mirror and a camera and my dad playing with toys and race cars and that sort of thing to try and get me to laugh at the camera.’

In 2014, Jess – who hasn’t pursued an acting career – revealed she only revealed her secret during a game with her university friends – where they all had to say something about themselves that no one else would guess.

Teletubbies 26 new episodes will hit screens on November 14, and is the second revival for the iconic British show, which first ran between 1997 and 2001. It was revived in 2015, and went off screens again in 2018.
