Very rare Kew Gardens 50p coin scores over 32 bids as it sells for huge £165

Rare coins are extremely popular for collectors.

The Kew Gardens 50p is one of the most sought-after coins with millions of Brits eager to get their hands on one.

Just 210,000 of the coins made it into circulation since its release date back in 2009.

The coin features the famous Chinese Pagoda at the iconic London landmark.

Often savvy Brits put the coin up for auction with it scooping a fortune on eBay.

It's not unusual to see the coin sell for a lot of money after flogging for £167 previously.

Now the famous coin racked in a lot of bids online which ended on Friday afternoon.

The seller listed the "very rare" genuine 2009 Kew Gardens 50p coin earlier this week with it getting 32 bids.

And in the end, the coin sold for an eye-watering £165, over 330 times its face value.

In the description, the eBay seller wrote: "Genuine 2009 Kew Gardens (Chinese Pagoda) circulated 50p coin.

"Very low mintage, only 210,000 so very rare and very collectable. Condition used due to being in circulation.

"Auction only. Please don't ask me for an offer price. Coin will be sent Royal Mail Special Delivery.

"WILL POST UK ONLY! HAPPY BIDDING!"

The coin's starting price began at 99p before shooting up to over £100 in the space of a day since it was listed.

Then in a matter of days, the bidding ended on January 20 with the final number going at £165.

After 12 bidders battled it out for the coin, the one who scooped it will have to pay a £8.95 delivery cost too.

The Royal Mint's most rare and valuable 50p coins in circulation include the Kew Gardens 50p, worth up to £895.

It was designed to mark the 250th anniversary of the landmark in 2009 with only 210,000 coins ever minted.
