Will I have to prove to my work I had a miscarriage in order to take time off?

DEAR DEIDRE: LAST weekend, I had a miscarriage.

I was only a few weeks into the pregnancy but I planned to surprise my fiancé on Easter Sunday with the good news.

Then it all went wrong on Good Friday.

I managed to get back on my feet without medical help by taking a couple of days’ rest but I’m taking this week off work.

I’m not registered with a doctor, having just moved in with my fiancé. I am 27, he is 29. Work are strict about us having time off for sickness.

Will I need something in writing to prove that I had the miscarriage?

DEIDRE SAYS: It is very important you see a doctor to confirm all is well health-wise after your miscarriage.

Make it a priority to get registered and see the GP. If you can’t do that quickly, go to A&E.

Ask for a note explaining what happened.

And find support through miscarriageassociation.org.uk (01924 200 799).
