Some Amazon Kindle users are losing the ability to easily purchase ebooks with the shock change coming into force today. The update, which affects a number of older models, means owners will no longer be able to buy something to read directly on their device from the Kindle Store.
Considering this is how most people purchase their novels, biographies and best sellers it’s a dramatic revamp from Amazon that’s sure to upset a vast number of owners.

KINDLES HIT BY THE CHANGES
Kindle (2nd Gen) International, Kindle DX International, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle (4th Gen), and Kindle (5th Gen)
Owners of these Kindles face a few options – they can either keep their existing ereader and simply purchase books directly from the Amazon website and send it to their device.

Anyone who misses the convenience of being able to look for something new to read on their device and purchase it directly will need to buy a newer model.
Luckily, Amazon offers trade-in for older Kindle ereaders, so if you return your current device you can get money off when you upgrade.
To do this, you simply need to head to the Amazon Trade-In Programme website, answer a few questions and then you’ll get a return label which lets you post your device free of charge.
Once it’s returned and accepted Amazon will then send you a gift card with the value of your trade-in, plus a 20 percent discount for a new Kindle.
Select Kindle models are eligible for trade-in including third gen and ninth generation ereaders.
If you’re wondering which Kindles you can buy at the time of writing the cheapest Kindle – the model with a front light – which costs £69.99 for the version with ads is not available on the Amazon UK website.
However, the Kindle Paperwhite – which is arguably the best all-round ereader money can buy – is available on the Amazon UK website.
The version with ads is £129.99, and you can also get three months access to Kindle Unlimited entirely for free when you pick up this ereader.
Kindle Unlimited is a subscription-based service which offers access to a library of over one million ebooks, so if you’re not sure what to read next you’ll have plenty to choose from when you get your new Kindle ereader.
