If you’ve been tempted by the deals on offer across the Amazon website recently, you might be thinking about getting a Prime membership – and now could be the perfect time.

If you haven’t been a member before, you can take advantage of a 30-day free trial. This gives you all the service’s benefits for nothing for a month.

If you’re a lapsed member, you may be offered a 99p-a-day trial that lasts up to a week. This may be worth it if you’re planning to sign up just to take advantage of time-sensitive occasions – like Prime day.

After your trial period ends, you’ll have to pay either £95 for a year-long membership or £8.99 for a monthly subscription.

You can also opt for a Prime Video-only subscription for £5.99 a month.

If you’re a student, Prime will be much cheaper. Not only can you get a six-month trial (in association with Microsoft Surface), you then pay just £4.49 a month afterwards – If you pay upfront for a year’s subscription, you’ll pay £47.49, making it even cheaper.

You’ll also get exclusive offers, with student-specific discounts on clothing, textbooks, and other university essentials.

Now could be a particularly good time to sign up for Prime, as they are currently running their Amazon ‘Early Access’ event, seeing deals on hundreds of thousands of items.

What does Prime membership get you?

Premium Delivery

Prime members get a wide range of benefits, the most famous of which is probably free delivery.

If you’re based in the UK, that means unlimited ‘Premium delivery’: free, often fast delivery for all of your orders.

If you live in certain parts of certain cities, you can also get free same-day delivery on many items if an order is placed before 1pm. Next-day delivery is often available.

You can also choose dedicated ‘delivery days’, if you want to fit deliveries around your schedule.

If you get groceries delivered through Amazon Fresh or Morrisons, you can get your items delivered within 2-hour delivery for free, if the total order is over £40.

If you need your delivery within an hour, this costs £3.99 extra. And, like same-day delivery, this service is only available to households in certain postcodes.

As well as free delivery, the service comes with a range of other perks.

Amazon Prime Early Access

Amazon Prime ‘Early Access’ is a 48-hour sale event that is open to Amazon Prime members in the UK, the US, and 13 other countries.

This year’s event began today (11 October 2022) at 12am and will end tomorrow (October 12).

The sale is designed to kick off its holiday season, coming before other events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It promises a ‘Top 100’ list of deals, a dedicated early access page, and hundreds of thousands of promotions across toys, electronics, home, kitchen, fashion items and more.

Amazon Prime Day

Another time-limited promotional period, Amazon Prime Day deals are only available to Prime subscribers, making this potentially the most lucrative time to sign up.

This year’s event took place at the start of the summer.

Amazon Entertainment Services

When signing up to Amazon Prime, you automatically get access to Prime Video, Amazon Music and Prime Reading, which gives users access to a rotating selection of eBooks, comics and magazines.

Prime Video offers free access to a wide range of movies and TV shows, including Amazon Originals like Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Man In The High Castle, The Grand Tour Season Two, and The Marvellous Mrs Maisel.

However, you may have to pay extra to rent certain titles.

Amazon Prime Video has been in the headlines recently for some highly anticipated big-budget releases, like Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which stars Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Nazanin Boniadi, and many more.

Amazon lightning deals

Prime also gives you early access to 30-minute lightning deals on the Amazon store, as well as unlimited photo storage. And you can share these benefits with other members of your household.
