The 2024 International Copyright Forum was successfully concluded in Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province. The forum was co-hosted by the National Copyright Administration of the People’s Republic of China (NCAC) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and organized by the Bureau of Copyright of Jiangxi Province and the Jingdezhen Municipal People’s Government. Themed with “Copyright and Creative Industry for Sustainable Development”, the forum brought together global experts and scholars in the copyright sector to exchange their insights and proposals on an array of topics, including Inheritance and Innovation of Traditional Culture Through Copyright Protection, Application of Artificial Intelligence to Content Creation, Copyright as a Mechanism of Securing Cultural Access and Participation, Collective Management of Copyright in the Era of Knowledge Economy, and Role of Copyright for the Sustainable Development of Creative Industries. The forum aims to implement the innovation-driven development strategy, promote the high-quality development of the copyright industry, and empower the exchange and mutual learning between civilizations, as well as global cultural prosperity with copyright.
Attendees emphasized that copyright is a vital component and core aspect of intellectual property. We must protect copyright to preserve and develop ethnic culture, leverage copyright to drive high-quality sustainable development, and foster international exchange and cooperation on copyright to promote the harmonious coexistence of diverse civilizations. Meanwhile, the development and innovation in AI have brought ongoing and significant challenges along with opportunities for the creative industry, emerging as a key focus and hot topic at the forum.
The two-day event included five thematic sessions on “Inheritance and Innovation of Traditional Culture Through Copyright Protection: Policies and Measures”, “Application of Artificial Intelligence for Content Creation: Opportunities and Challenges”, “Copyright as a Mechanism of Securing Cultural Access and Participation: Protection and Limitations”, “Collective Management of Copyright in the Era of Knowledge Economy: Present and Prospects”, and “Role of Copyright for the Sustainable Development of Creative Industries: Efforts and Achievements”. Attendees engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges, contributing significantly to the healthy development of the international copyright industry, both for now and in the future. The forum also launched the 2024 Pilot Program of Copyright for the Protection and Promotion of Folklore.
Under the backdrop of cultural and economic globalization, the Chinese Government has consistently attached great importance to intellectual property protection, vigorously promoted the development of the copyright industry, and made a series of major deployments, with remarkable breakthroughs and historic accomplishments made. Looking into the future, China stands ready to deepen the copyright cooperation and exchanges with its global counterparts and jointly refine the international copyright rules, with a view to achieving high-quality development of the copyright industry and advancing the modernization drive.
