Dating app adds ‘anti-ghosting’ feature that encourages users to reply

There’s nothing more annoying than connecting with someone on a dating app , only for them to suddenly stop replying.

This so-called ‘ghosting’ is worryingly prevalent on dating apps, and can leave users feeling insecure.

Now, Badoo has launched a special anti-ghosting feature, which suggests responses for users who haven’t replied to to their match.

Claire Stott, Badoo’s in-house dating expert, said: “Ghosting has been going on forever, but apps have expanded the dating pool and created more opportunities for people to meet.

“Therefore the chances of being ghosted are higher.”

If a user hasn’t replied to someone after three days, Badoo will notify the user and provide reply suggestions.

These include ‘Hey, sorry for the late reply. When are you free to meet?’, or ‘Hey I think you’re great, but I don’t see us as a match. Take Care!”

Badoo hopes that the new feature will encourage users to be responsible for their behaviour online.

Ms Stott added: “Not only does the feature intercept the ‘ghosting’ process by encouraging users to reply, it also prompts those who are actually interested in their match, to get the ball rolling and meet in real life.
