EE ultimate 5G upgrade available TODAY as customers get biggest ever speed boost

Binging on Netflix or getting your fix of Premier League football will never be the same again.

From today, UK smartphone owners can access blistering 5G data speeds with EE the very first network to turn on this futuristic technology.

5G looks set to make 4G look decidedly sluggish with downloads that can even exceed what many Brits experience via their home broadband.

In fact, it’s possible that some customers could get online at 1Gbps which would download a full HD movie in just 30 seconds.

To see just how fast things can get has had an exclusive preview of this new network and we can confirm it’s mightily impressive.

With the latest OnePlus 7 Pro 5G smartphone in our pocket, we were able to experience these new speeds on the streets of London.

In Covent Garden our top reading was 289Mbps but things were even better in Charing Cross where our tests broke the 320Mbps barrier.

At that rate, you’ll download files around 10 times faster than the average UK broadband and be able to stream content in full 4K without fear of buffering.

Along with being a whole lot quicker, 5G should bring a much more reliable connection with more people able to access fast data at the same time.

If you fancy giving 5G a try then you’ll find EE’s signal now available in parts of London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester.

More areas will be added over time with the network confirming that it’s rolling out more than 100 new 5G sites every month.

Bristol, Coventry, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Liverpool, Hull, Leeds, Newcastle and Glasgow are all set for this new network soon.

However, before you rush outside to see if your street has 5G, it’s worth noting that you’ll need a 5G-ready phone to take advantage of this new tech.

Firm’s including Samsung, OnePlus and Oppo have all launched shiny new devices which are powered by 5G with prices starting from £54 per month on contract.

Alongside EE smartphone plans, there’s also 5G SIM only option which start at 20GB per month (£32 per month) and rising to 100GB (£52 per month).

Speaking at the launch of 5G, Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s Consumer division, said: “This is the start of the UK’s 5G journey and great news for our customers that want and need the best connections. We’ve started with 5G in some of the busiest parts of the UK, the widest range of 5G devices in the UK, and plans that give customers the best mobile connection and great benefits.
