Members of the European Parliament have called for a ban on so-called ‘killer robots ’ on the battlefield.
The ban would prevent robots from acting on the battlefield without human intervention.
The new call comes a month after talks at the UN failed to reach a decision about banning ‘killer robots’, with some some MEPs concerned that such a decision could limit scientific research.
According to the BBC, Bodil Valero, security policy spokeswoman for the EU Parliament’s Greens/EFA Group, said: “Autonomous weapons systems must be banned internationally.
"The power to decide over life and death should never be taken out of human hands and given to machines.”
In November, negotiations will be held at the UN, in the hopes of reaching a consensus on the issue.
