Fifa 23 is sending the long-running football video game series out with a bang.
This will be the last of the Fifa EA games on consoles like Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X as the two brands part ways after decades.
Next year we’ll get an EA Sports FC instead.
But that’s not stopped the developers from throwing the kitchen sink at this autumn's final version.
They’re promising more gameplay realism, both the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cups, the addition of women’s club teams for the first time and true console cross-play features so that gamers can unite over Fifa whatever machine they play on.
Dubbed ‘the world’s game’ EA have put a lot of effort into overhauling their game engine to boost the realism on the latest consoles.

The grass moves more naturally, animations are more varied – there are 6,000 of them featuring millions of captured frames – and there will be 19,000 players, 700+ teams, 100+ stadiums, and over 30 leagues – including the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, and for the first time the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
A new risk versus reward shooting mechanic has also been added, giving the game arguably a slightly more arcadey vibe, with refreshed free kicks, penalties and corners and more realistic physics to bring variety to each match.
The match day experience has also been boosted, from augmented reality broadcast replays to hyper-realistic pitch surfaces and enhanced stadium atmosphere amongst the crowds.
A new coaching system helps introduce new and less experienced players to the fundamentals of gameplay, with a series of challenges and chapters to help you improve your play before taking to cross-play online, playing Xbox to Playstation if you want one on one.

There’s also changes to career mode, Fifa Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs for expert gamers.
And Volta football gets a new lease of life, allowing players to tweak their avatars to unique styles for that street soccer/fashion vibe.
Nick Wlodyka, of EA Sports, said: “We have pushed the boundaries of realism in Fifa 23 through HyperMotion2, using state-of-the-art technology to capture professional men’s and women’s teams in full intensity matches that translates millions of data points into new animations in real-time.
“The result is the most natural and realistic motion in football gaming, and when combined with the inclusion of both men’s and women’s World Cups, women’s club football, and cross-play features, will immerse players and football fans around the world for years to come.”
Navin Singh, The FA’s Commercial Director, added: “I’m delighted that the Barclays Women’s Super League will be one of the first women’s club competitions to feature in Fifa 23, with the franchise historically having one of the largest and most engaged gaming communities in the world.
“The added visibility a global brand like EA Sports will provide for our league, teams and players cannot be
underestimated.”
Fifa 23 will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 30.
