Finding your music on Spotify could get much harder as app turns to video

Spotify is about to become much more like TikTok, as the music streaming service plans to launch a huge new redesign.

The firm revealed what its new app will look like, with a feed that scrolls vertically and autoplays audio and video.

Ashley Carman, a Bloomberg reporter who attended Spotify's Stream On event this week, said the new app will show off video 'previews' of audiobooks, podcasts and songs.

It will reportedly use artificial intelligence to power the previews, as well as recommend users new songs and podcasts.

Autoplay will also be introduced for podcasts, so that when you're done listening to one show, another will automatically begin playing.

The changes come as part of a push to get users listening to things they wouldn't necessarily choose themselves.

But given that other apps, including Facebook and Instagram, have also introduced TikTok-style vertical video scrolling, some users are frustrated by the news.

One Twitter user, @soothshill, wrote: "Must every app become a reskinned TikTok[?]"

Another user, @Tux1234, said: "This looks ****ing awful. Why can't they just leave things alone? I like how Spotify works now, it works well for me ffs."

The app changes follow the introduction of an 'AI DJ' to Spotify, which uses all the data the app has about you to make you a playlist.

The 'DJ' even speaks to users in a 'realistic' voice and provides commentary about what you're listening to, so you don't have to tune into Radio 1 anymore.

In a blog post announcing the feature, Spotify said: "The DJ is a personalised AI guide that knows you and your music taste so well that it can choose what to play for you."
