It’s been a bust afternoon for Google with the firm announcing its new Google Pixel smartphones and updated Wi-Fi booster.
But that’s not all as there’s also been an upgrade to the hugely popular Google Home Mini smart speaker.
Whilst this latest device might look identical to its predecessor, the Mini has been fully rebooted with a new name and some much bigger features.
Now called the Google Nest Mini, this device packs much louder sound into its small but perfectly formed pebble design.
Google says the Nest Mini has been completely rebuilt from the ground up with it now featuring an improved amplifier which should help to boost its audio credentials making the mini speaker sound a little more mighty.
This is, of course, a smart device and the inbuilt Google Assistant is also getting some improvements via the machine learning chip that’s now placed inside.
It’s currently unclear exactly what changes this will bring in the short-term but it’s likely these new brains will help future-proof the Nest Mini and help speed up responses and its accuracy.
And another extra feature that should make the smart experience better is the addition of a third microphone which will mean that Google Assistant should always hear what you are asking of it.
The Mini should also always be able to hear what you are saying to it with a third microphone listening to your every command.
So that’s what’s going on under the hood but what about the design of the Nest Mini as things appear pretty similar from the outside?
Although Google has stuck with the original look there are some subtle changes.
Firstly, the Nest Mini is now made from more eco-friendly materials including the fabric mesh coming from recycled plastic bottles.
There’s some improved touch controls and two extra LED lights now glow to help you turn up and down the volume.
Finally, Google has designed the Nest Mini to be positioned in more places than just your desk with it getting a design that now lets you hang it on your wall.
The new smart speaker goes on sale from October 22 with a price of £49 and is available in a new blue colour.
