How to turn on dark mode in Slack

Slack has become an increasingly popular way for workplaces to communicate as many employees shift to remote working.

Like other chat apps, there are a range of features you can use to personalise how you interact with the app.

For example, you can set scheduled times to snooze notificiations when you don’t want to be disturbed.

And, like almost every other app out there, there’s also a dark mode you can enable.

The dark mode has become popular in recent years. Firstly, because it can help reduce the strain on battery life if you’re using a mobile device. But also because, in many cases, it can be easier on the eyes.

Enabling dark mode cuts out some of the blue light emitted by a screen that can interupt melatonin production and interfere with sleep.

How to turn on dark mode in Slack

On Slack, the option is easy to find, just follow these steps:

  • Open the app and sign in.
  • If you’re on a desktop app, click your profile in the top right. If you’re on the Android or iOS app, tap the ‘You’ profile icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  • Click or tap on ‘Preferences.’
  • If you’re on desktop, click on ‘Themes.’ You’ll be given the option to switch between light or dark or sync the theme with your operating system.
  • If you’re on Android or iOS, simply tap on ‘Dark mode’ to turn it on.

If you’re using Slack on either an iPhone or iPad running iOS 13, then you should find Slack automatically adjusts to match your device’s theme – so you don’t need to worry about toggling it manually.

Whether or not you like using dark mode, Slack seems here to stay.

And it turns out many of us are using language on the chat app we’d never use in real life.
