Gone are the days of a simple device to tell the time – now you can run your entire life from your watch.
Smartwatches make it easier than ever to be connected to all of your devices in a compact package, and the rumour mills are buzzing that the popular Apple Watch will be given a shiny new look.
The last time Apple’s smartwatch got a redesign was in 2018 when it introduced the Series 4.
If you’re looking to upgrade your Apple Watch in the near future, you will need to unpair and erase the existing model from your devices to make way for a new one.
This is how you can do it:
How do you unpair an Apple Watch from your devices?
It is quick and easy to unpair your Apple Watch from your iPhone.
Be aware however that unpairing your Apple Watch restores it to its factory settings.
Because of this, if you’re using your Apple Watch with a public transport card in the Wallet app, remove your public transport card from your Apple Watch before you unpair.
To get started, keep your Apple Watch and iPhone close together as you unpair them.
Then open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and go to the ‘My Watch’ tab and tap ‘All Watches’.
Tap the info button next to the watch you want to unpair. Then all you need to do is click ‘Unpair Apple Watch’ and ‘Confirm’.
For GPS + Cellular models – which are Apple Watches that can connect to a mobile network to make calls and use data instead of using a Wi-Fi connection – you need to choose to keep or remove your mobile data plan.
If you aren’t going to pair with a different watch or iPhone, you may need to contact your network provider to cancel your mobile data subscription.
How do you erase an Apple Watch?
If you don’t have your iPhone, you can still erase all of the data on an Apple Watch.
On your Apple Watch, tap ‘Settings’, then ‘General’, ‘Reset’, and lastly, ‘Erase All Content and Settings’.
Again, for GPS + Cellular models, you need to choose to keep or remove your mobile data plan. This process resets your Apple Watch back to the factory settings.
If you’ve forgotten your passcode, there is another way you can erase your Apple Watch.
Put your watch on its charger and keep it there until you complete these steps.
Then, press and hold the side button until you see ‘Power Off’. Press and hold the Digital Crown until you see ‘Erase All Content and Settings’.
Lastly, tap ‘Reset,’ then tap ‘Reset’ again to confirm.
