Do you know any celebrities from your home town? Maybe you know hundreds of famous faces, or maybe you don’t think there are any at all.

With the help of an interactive map of celebrity birthplaces, you can find out exactly how many notable people were born in your city — and how notable they were.

Software developer Topi Tjukanov built the map using a database published by academics in June. It holds information from Wikipedia and Wikidata including the names, birthplaces and birthdates and of millions of notable people throughout history.

A notability index gives an idea of how influential each famous person is or was, relatively speaking.

The result is an interactive globe where country names are replaced with celebrities, allowing users to spin, scroll and zoom in on any location to find out who was born there.

The bolder the celebrity name, the more influential they are considered.

Sharing the visualisation on Twitter, Tjukanov wrote: ‘Did you know Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar? Who is the most famous person from your home town?’
