It’s been a long wait since Apple first announced the launch of iOS 17 back in June but we now finally know when this update will be released to iPhones across the planet. The US technology has just been showing off its latest hardware at its Wonderlust keynote in Cupertino and along with revealing a new iPhone 15 we now have an official release date for iOS 17 as well.
So when can you expect to see this upgrade on your iPhone?
Apple has set Monday, September 18 as the date for the download to become available with these releases usually taking place at around 6pm BST.
It’s another feature-packed offering from the firm but sadly not everyone who currently enjoys iOS 16 will get access to iOS 17. That’s because some devices such as the iPhone 8 and iPhone X are being removed from Apple’s update list this year due to their age.

If you own one of these phones you’re in for a treat as there are plenty of new features in this release including a new StandBy mode which turns the device into a mini desktop display when not being used. Once docked on a charger, StandBy Mode can show calendars, photo albums and a clock – it basically means you don’t have to stare at a blank screen all day.

Another update in iOS 17 comes to AirDrop with users now able to share their contact details by simply holding a device near another.
Speaking of contacts, Apple has added neat contact cards which can be customised and displayed when receiving calls.
FaceTime gets upgrade with gestures now generating effects in the background. For example, hold two things up during a call and fireworks will appear behind you.
Live Stickers can now be added to Messages and a new Live Check In mode lets friends know you’ve arrived at your destination safely via a text.
