The new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro range are now official with Apple taking the wraps off these devices during its September launch event. There’s a swathe of Android-beating features arriving on these smartphones but UK Apple lovers are going to have to pay a lot extra to own one.
Pre-orders are now live but those heading to the Apple Store with find prices across the range have increased in 2022 with the iPhone 14 now starting from £849 – that’s a £70 hike over last year’s iPhone 13.
Things get even worse for anyone wanting the Pro models with these premium call makers now starting from £1,099 – that’s a jump of over £100.
To make matters worse, buyers across the pond haven’t been hit by big hikes with US iPhone fans paying exactly the same as they did in 2021.
Apple is offering incentives including money off when customers hand over their current phones and there’s a way to pay things back in monthly instalments but it’s still a blow for anyone in Britain who was hoping to make the switch.
Although things are now more expensive, the upgrades coming to the iPhone 14 range could be worth paying that higher price. The standard model gets an improved A15 Bionic processor and better cameras that can shoot super steady video without the need for expensive accessories.
There’s also satellite technology tucked under the shell which lets users send texts even when there’s no mobile signal. This could be a life-saving update for anyone stuck up a mountain and in desperate need of help.
Another bonus coming to the iPhone 14 is something called Crash Detection which calls the emergency services and sends an exact location so help can be sent. For those wanting a bigger screen, there’s now a Plus version of this device which gets a more expansive 6.7-inch screen and longer battery life.
So that’s the iPhone 14 but what if you want even more fancy features?
Apple’s new Pro range is really taking things up a notch.
These flagship gadgets now get a completely redesigned and fully interactive notch that changes throughout the day. It’s something Apple is calling Dynamic Island and it could be a game changer.

For example, when a call comes through the little black bar on the screen expands to let you answer it. There are also animations for things such as timers and music playback.
The Pro models also now arrives with an always-on display which means the ProMotion screen never goes blank and there’s a much faster A16 Bionic chip tucked inside which now offers even better performance than before.
The rear camera system has been beefed up to include a new 48MP Main camera with a quad-pixel sensor that adapts to the photo being captured. This should mean that every shot taken on the phone looks like it’s been shot by a pro.
The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are available now to pre-order with the iPhone 14 Plus arriving next month.
