Mercedes unveils ‘distracting’ smart car with built-in Angry Birds and TikTok

Mercedes drivers will be able to play Angry Birds and film TikToks from their car dashboard, thanks to a new smart entertainment package.

The German automaker has announced that new Mercedes-Benz E-Class can be fitted with an optional 'superscreen' called the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX).

The screen spreads across most of the car dashboard and even has a selfie camera so drivers can make TikTok videos or attend video conferences on Zoom or WebEx.

The MBUX also comes fitted with artificial intelligence capabilities which learn your 'comfort preferences', such as lighting, seat massage, or sounds.

The MBUX will be made available in Europe in summer and in the US in Autumn.

The apps come part of an entertainment package which can be downloaded directly to the E-Class.

As well as Zoom, Angry Birds, and TikTok, drivers will have full access to an App Store similar to that on Android and iPhone devices.

This means you'll be able to install video streaming services and other games to use when the car is stationary.

To reduce distractions on the road, the passenger side screen has a 'visual shield' to prevent it from distracting the driver.

Twitter users have mocked the new vehicle for its 'entertainment features'.

One Twitter user, @Squirrel3218, said: "If you're going to drive, then drive. It's not a good time for multitasking."

Another user, @BufodJustice, said: "Can't legally use a cell phone while driving in most states. Car manufacturers, puts TV in dash with cellphone attached to it!"

The system looks set to rival that of Tesla's Infotainment package, which allows people to stream films or even play videogames on the road.
