Nasa marks Earth Day 2020 with #EarthDayAtHome message

It’s been 50 years since the first Earth Day took place and it’s probably fair to say there’s never been one quite the same as today.

As the world continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic and millions of people are quarantined to their homes, Nasa says Earth Day has never been more important.

The annual event is held to raise awareness of problems affecting the environment and the American space agency has revealed a tonne of different activities we can all do from home.

Games and challenges sit alongside webinars and interactive maps that can all be enjoyed at home on a computer. Even though we’re in lockdown, Nasa is hoping people will share their experiences of Earth Day with the hashtag #EarthDayAtHome.

‘On this Earth Day, as we physically separate ourselves by necessity, we can still collectively appreciate the wondrous beauty of our planet and the extraordinary science that helps us understand how it all works – and we can do it from our homes,’ the space agency wrote.

‘Much as our Earth’s systems are interconnected so, too, are all of us.’
