Playstation VR 2 preorders begin but gamers outraged as it costs more than a PS5

Sony has finally unveiled its PS VR 2 headset pricing and release date—so that gamers can begin enjoying next-gen virtual reality on the Playstation 5.

The headset will be released on 22nd February 2023, and cost a whopping £530, which is almost £100 more than a Playstation 5.

There will also be a bundle edition including the PS VR 2 launch title, Horizon: Call of the Mountain, which will be the first VR game of its kind based in the universe of Sony flagship title Horizon: Zero Dawn.

If you want a charging dock for the headset, you'll have to pay an extra £40. So if you want to get onboard with the PS VR2, that'll be a neat £1020.

The price of PS VR 2 has divided gamers, especially considering that the base PS5 console remains in short supply.

Twitter user @TheLegendOfMart said: "It costs more than the console… VR is never going to take off if the headsets are so much more expensive than, realistically, 90% of people can afford."

Another user, @JuiceMan_V, said: "It's not the right price for the general public. Imagine a kid trying to convince his mom to buy this on top of a $500 console and $70 games? Lol!"

Other gamers have been more generous, comparing its price to more expensive headsets from Oculus and HTC, while some have said they'd buy it if it worked on PC as well as Playstation.

Sony also took the time to reveal eleven great-looking PS VR 2 launch titles, all of which will be available from February 2022.

It looks like Playstation is trying to target fans of shooters with a host of shooting games on PS VR 2. Crossfire: Sierra Squad promises to be a full VR FPS where players must fight a 'seemingly endless enemy force' with 'high AI intelligence'. There's also After The Fall, a new post-apocalyptic co-op shooter that sees players team up with three friends to battle hordes of mutants and bosses, 'Back4Blood' style.

There's also more typical, accessible virtual reality titles. This includes a VR version of the popular game Hello: Neighbour, as well as an adaptation of popular urban planning sim, City: Skylines.

If you're interested in pre-ordering the PS VR2, you can register on Sony's website to be in with a chance of selection.
