Engineers and staff at some of the world's biggest tech companies are spending up to $150,000 (£131,000) to become a few inches taller.

That's according to a Las Vegas cosmetic surgeon who offers patients a 'leg-lengthening' procedure to increase their height by 3 to 6 inches.

Kevin Debiparshad told GQ Magazine he has treated CEOs, actors, and many tech workers who are willing to spend big for a few inches more.

Debiparshad said: "I joke that I could open a tech company. I got, like, 20 software engineers doing this procedure right now who are here in Vegas. There was a girl yesterday from PayPal. I've got patients from Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft. I've had multiple patients from Microsoft."

During the procedure, doctors break their patient's thigh bones and then jam them full of adjustable metal nails. These are extended by a small amount every day for three months using a remote control.

After that, the bones are lengthened and can take a few months to heal up. According to GQ, one software engineer spend three months after his surgery alone in his flat eating takeaways so he could go from being 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-9.

Many other patients said they have never told anyone that they've undergone the procedure.

Apparently, this is because tech workers think that by being taller, they'll be more likely to get a promotion and become a CEO.

One patient said he first realised he had become taller because he could no longer pee accurately. "I'm not used to peeing being dangerous. I'm used to it going right there. I'm having to adjust for those three inches," he told GQ.

He added: "People just look at you differently when you're tall. I'm not even lying."
