Parents and guardians will soon be able to keep a closer eye on how their teens use Snapchat, thanks to the app's new Family Center feature.
The new feature lets you see who your kids are messaging on their friends list but without letting you see the content they're sending.
Both you and your child must accept an invite, and once you've done so, you'll be able to see their friends list and who they've interacted with over the last week.

The tool will even let you report suspicious or concerning accounts to Snap's safety team to ensure your kids are using the app safely.
Can Snapchat be monitored by parents?
As soon as the tool goes live over the next few weeks, it will be possible for parents to monitor their children's use of WhatsApp.
The changes follow criticisms of Snapchat as being unsafe or even 'dangerous' for kids. Common Sense Media says that it can expose users to 'age-inappropriate content' as well as gather personal data from them through 'marketing ploys' such as quizzes.
The exposure to inappropriate content can stem largely from Snapchat's disappearing message function which sees photos or videos vanish after being watched.

This means it is very difficult to moderate Snapchat interactions or report inappropriate content to the app.
However, it is also worth bearing in mind that Snapchat enables you to save or screenshot images, which could lead to negative consequences if your child sends something they might regret.
Snapchat has in the past been identified as a tool for cyberbullying, along with Facebook and Instagram.
