Update: Twitter’s services appear to be back up and running after an unplanned outage that caused a blackout for users around the world.
Original story 13:10 14/07/2022: Twitter is suffering an outage that has left thousands of people unable to use the app.
Reports have flooded in of users being unable to refresh their feed, post new tweets or even load the site at all.
According to usage stats collected by DownDetector, issues first began to appear at around 12.55pm on Thursday July, 14.
‘”Something went wrong. Try reloading.” Yeah I’ve done that at least 50 times now,’ reported one frustrated user.
Another suggested: ‘I wonder if twitter being down has anything to do with the elon musk stuff lol, although its more likely maybe theres too much people using twitter or something and then it just crashed is my guess.’
The site is showing that 50% of users are experiencing problems with the site, while 42% are having trouble with the app. The remaining 8% are reporting an inability to post.
Meanwhile, Twitter clients like TweetDeck are also failing to load.
Twitter is, historically, one of the more stable social platforms and usually the one that most people to turn to when trying to confirm if other social media outages are genuine.
Bret Taylor, the chair of the social media company’s board, tweeted on Tuesday that the board has filed a lawsuit ‘to hold Elon Musk accountable to his contractual obligations’.
Mr Musk had initially hinted he was backing away from the deal, equivalent to £37 billion, in April.
