Wrexham is the most social media-obsessed city in the UK, according to new research.

A study conducted by gaming site AskGamblers has analysed the number of monthly Google searches in the last year for social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok.

Two Welsh cities took the top and bottom spot respectively. Newport is the least social media-obsessed city in Britain, with just 149 social media searches per 1000 people.

Meanwhile, locals in Wrexham are absolutely obsessed with likes, shares and clicks, particularly on Facebook.

The town has a stonking 1778 searches for social media sites for every 1000 people. That's possibly because Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds bought the local football team last year and won't ever stop posting about it – so perhaps they're just keeping up to date with the latest.

That's despite the fact the town has dozens of exciting attractions, including the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. This is the UK's longest and highest aqueduct, standing at 39 metres high.

It can even carry narrowboats across it—not that the people of Wrexham are bothered about this incredible feat of engineering, as they're seemingly too busy scrolling through Facebook and Twitter posts about Wrexham FC to care.

There is also the possibility that people in Wrexham do not realise that you can get Facebook downloaded as an app, so you don't actually have to type it into Google every time you use it.

Meanwhile, Wakefield in West Yorkshire spends the second-least amount of time searching for social media sites, with just 238 social media searches for every 1000 people.

This is highly unusual considering Wakefield also has an aqueduct, which is nowhere near as high or impressive as Wrexham's massive aqueduct.

But it does look nice and it's Grade I listed, so perhaps the people of Wakefield are simply spending more time there than on their phones. They also don't have a celebrity-owned football club.

If you're worried that you're spending too much time on social media, there's help out there and plenty of screen time controls available. These tools can help you limit your usage so you have more time to walk around in the real world, touch grass, and visit your local aqueduct.
