The Champions League final is taking place in Madrid, Spain, where Tottenham and Liverpool will take to the pitch to compete for one of the most esteemed trophies in football.

Ahead of the clash, Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen insisted the London club will not “lie down” against Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

He told BBC Sport: “We will not lie down.

“We dream we will stand with the trophy – that’s what we see in our heads. But we know it won’t come easy.”

Moreover, Eriksen declared it would be a “statement” if Tottenham is able to win tonight after being “in the top four for many years”.

The Danish midfielder went on: “I came to Spurs six years ago and it’s been an upwards curve since.

“We’ve been in the top four for many years and have been in the Champions League. It would be statement to be able to win this competition.

“It’s something really special and something a footballer dreams about. I would love to have that on my CV.”

If Tottenham wish to add another piece of silverware to their historic trophy cabinet, they will need to overcome Liverpool who came second in this year’s Premier League.

Ahead of the match in Madrid, Jurgen Klopp has praised his team’s quality, saying he has never been in a final with a better set to players.

The manager declared: “I have never been part of a final with a better team than this.

“I am not so surprised by this because our boys mix our potential with attitude in the best way I have witnessed.

“I don’t like to blame my other teams. I love them all. They all gave everything.”
