It’s a bad day for Facebook. Not only is the world’s most popular social network suffering a colossal outage of its own, but two of its biggest apps – Instagram and WhatsApp – are experiencing worldwide outages. WhatsApp, which recently started to finally unveil its dark mode, is leaving users unable to send or receive messages.
Independent outage monitor DownDetector, which tracks social media mentions to try and track issues with popular websites and online services, has recorded more than 170 reports from users each minute insisting WhatsApp is not working on the Android, iPhone, or web app.
Of those, more than 50 percent have been left unable to connect to the chat app at all, users claim. That leaves only a loading symbol at the top of the app, endlessly swirling and makes sending or receiving text messages, voice messages, videos and photos impossible.
The outage appears to be limited to the UK and mainland Europe at the moment. That said, Express.co.uk can confirm our WhatsApp accounts are working properly at the time of writing.
