10 Christmas movies to watch on Netflix UK while you wait for Santa

Netflix once again has a delightful selection box of Christmas movies to get you feeling merry and bright in the run up to the big day.

As the year draws to a close you might want to spend the dark evenings (and dark afternoons as well if we’re honest) curled up in front of a good movie to get you ready to deck the halls comes December.

Many people are already turning to Christmas music early to bring a bit of much needed cheer to 2020, so if you want your films to follow suit – we’ve got you covered.

The best bit is you can watch them all from the comfort of your own home, which is where most of us will be spending the Christmas period anyway.

From animated festive fun, to edge-of-your seat action and an absolute treat from one Dolly Parton, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Here’s a round-up of 10 of the best Christmas movies to watch on Netflix this year.

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey

Forest Whitaker flexes his singing talents in the musical Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, as a jaded inventor whose best invention is stolen by a rival (Keegan-Michael Key). With the help of his young granddaughter (Madalen Mills) he finds his Christmas spirit once more.

The songs, co-written by John Legend, are not especially memorable but toe-tapping nonetheless.

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is on Netflix now.

The Princess Switch: Switched Again

The fabulously feel good sequel features not just one Vanessa Hudgens, but three!

Duchess Margaret (Hudgens) and Princess Stacy (also Hudgens) must work together to rein in Margaret’s wild-child cousin Fiona (Hudgens again) before she ruins their attempt to mend Margaret’s relationship with Kevin.

The Princess Switch: Switched Again is on Netflix now.

Dolly Parton’s Christmas On The Square

When she’s not funding a potentially life-saving Covid-19 vaccine, Dolly Parton is busy spreading Christmas joy with Christmas On The Square.

The Jolene singer plays an angel sent to save a town from the clutches of a greedy property developer, played by Christine Baranski.

Dolly Parton’s Christmas On The Square is on Netflix on November 22.

The Christmas Chronicles 2

Kurt Russell rocks an incredible beard to play Santa Claus alongside Goldie Hawn’s Mrs Claus in this light-hearted sequel.

We meet Kate Pierce (Darby Camp) as a teenager who reunites with Santa to take down a villain who threatens to ruin Christmas.

The Christmas Chronicles 2 is on Netflix on November 25.

Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey play singletons Sloane and Jackson, who pretend to be each other’s dates over the festive season. Three guesses what happens next.

Holidate is on Netflix now.

Operation Christmas Drop

A congressional aide (Kat Graham) meets the generous and handsome captain of a tropical U.S. Air Force base (Alexander Ludwig) while she should be gathering evidence to support closing the base down. Needless to say, the job is quickly forgotten about.

Operation Christmas Drop is on Netflix now.

Tudo Bem No Natal Que Vem/Just Another Christmas

Jorge has his own Groundhog Day after having an accident on Christmas Eve. He wakes up a year later with no memory of what’s happened. He suddenly finds himself repeating the same Christmas Eve for 365 days of the year. Rather him than us.

Just Another Christmas is on Netflix December 3.

Alien Xmas

A race of aliens try to steal Earth’s gravity to make it easier for them to swipe everything from the planet.

It’s up to a small alien named X to save the world from his kleptomaniac kin.

Alien X-mas is on Netflix now.

Christmas Crossfire

For those who like their Christmas movies with a (bloody) twist, German offering Christmas Crossfire should fit the bill.

Edda and Sam, who have just met, go on a trip to her home village for Christmas. Things take a dark turn when they interrupt an attempted murder and have to go on the run from the would-be killers. Not your usual festive fare.

Christmas Crossfire is on Netflix on December 4.
