6 Potential Hero Deaths In 'Avengers: Infinity War' To Prepare Yourself For

**Potential spoilers and comic spoilers ahead!!**

Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Opening this Friday, the film will bring all the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Men, Spider-Men, and more together in one massive fight against the cosmic villain Thanos. Many will perish. The question is: Who?

The comics won’t tell us everything. Loosely based on Marvel’s Infinity Gauntlet storyline that sees Thanos pursue his dream of being God, Infinity War will definitely include some comic details, but who knows which? We do know from the trailer Thanos will come to Earth and he will face off with Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America at least. We also know the comic storyline features the deaths of many.

We also know stars like Chris Evans are nearing the ends of their Marvel contracts and likely won’t return for future movies. Evans has already said the next Avengers film (Avengers 4) will be his last. That means one thing — heartbreaking tragedy could be on the docket.

Speaking with EW, Robert Downey Jr. confirmed the stakes in Infinity War will be higher than ever before. “Believe me, I’m tired of every movie, you know, ‘It’s the end! It’s Armageddon! It’s the Be All, End All, Forever!’ And then it’s… not. This one actually is. (Laughs.) They’re not kidding. This is a heads-will-roll scenario.”

So whose heads will roll? How will Infinity War break our collective hearts this Friday? Here are six deaths we consider most likely to happen:

1. The Death of Captain America

Considering the aforementioned contract situation of Evans and the seeming death of Cap in the Infinity Gauntlet comic, the Avengers leader is a prime candidate to go down. The trailer shows Thanos and Cap duking it out:

2. The Death of Iron Man

Downey is in a similar position as Evans and he’s hinted at retirement before. He’s confirmed for Avengers 4 as well, but we could see him bite the dust. It’s also possible Tony Stark could assume a smaller, mentor role in future films. What we can’t deny, however, is the dramatic impact of an Iron Man death. As a character, he’s done it all and dying as Earth’s last protector would be a noble way to go. He will definitely face Thanos at the very least.

3. The Death of Loki

In the mid-credits scene of Thor: Ragnarok, Thor and Loki are intercepted by Thanos’ ship so look for Infinity War to begin with the three meeting. The trailer has already shown us Thanos squeezing Thor’s head so we’re afraid of what he might do to Loki. Loki, if you remember, was working with Thanos once upon a time, trying to collect Infinity Stones for him. But that story took a backseat a few movies ago. Thanos will probably not be happy with Loki when he sees him, and that could mean the mischievous one’s life. Then again it could also mean Loki weaseling his way back into Thanos’ good graces. The dude switches sides more often than Novak Djokovic.

4. The Death of Vision

Vision’s life force is the powerful Mind Stone, one of the Infinity Stones Thanos seeks to complete his Gauntlet. A trailer seems to show the hero writhing in agony as the stone is ripped from his forehead. If that happens, we lose Vision.

5. The Death of Scarlet Witch

If Vision, her love, goes down, look for Scarlet Witch to go into berserker mode and perhaps die in a final showdown with Thanos. We’ve already endured the loss of Quicksilver, her brother, in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Would Marvel kill off another Maximoff?

6. The Death of Nebula

Perhaps less heartbreaking than the others since she’s been a villain, don’t forget Nebula is on the right side of things now. She’s also Thanos’ daughter and the one person (along with his other daughter, Gamora) who won’t hesitate to confront him. Nebula has a major role in the Infinity Gauntlet comic, and her arc in the movies thus far has been one of redemption. Look for her to sacrifice herself to save someone, maybe her sister.
