A Discovery of Witches is about to return for its third and final season on Sky Max and NOW. The show has been a popular adaptation of author Deborah Harkness’s All Souls Trilogy, with season three bringing the third book to the small screen. Express.co.uk has all the details on the cast of season three’s first episode.

Who is in the cast of season three, episode one?

Diana Bishop – Teresa Palmer

Teresa Palmer is back again to lead the series as Diana Bishop.

At the end of season two, she finally learned how to control her powers, putting her in a very different position at the start of season three.

She was last seen preparing to jump back into the present, but there will no doubt be complications along the way.

Aside from A Discovery of Witches, Palmer can be seen in Warm Bodies, Lights Out, and Hacksaw Ridge.

Matthew Clairmont – Matthew Goode

Matthew Goode is back to co-lead the series in the iconic role of Matthew Clairmont.

Throughout the show, he has been helping to protect Diana as she has slowly but surely found her powers, but now she will no longer need his protection in season three.

Of course, Matthew was right alongside Diana as they were preparing to return to contemporary times.

Goode is also known for Stoker, The Imitation Game, and Watchmen.

Gallowglass – Steven Cree

Steven Cree is returning to the series as Gallowglass, Matthew’s nephew.

How Gallowglass plays into the third season remains to be seen, though there is no doubt he’ll get into a fight or two along the way.

He was last seen when Matthew informed him about returning to the present.

Cree is best known for Cobra, Depp Water, and Outlander where he played Ian Murray.

Ysabeau de Clermont – Lindsay Duncan

Lindsay Duncan is stepping back into the shoes of Matthew’s vampire mother, Ysabeau de Clermont.

She is one of the oldest vampires in existence at around 1,500 years old, and her age is matched by her cleverness.

While she has always been fiercely protective of her family, she has been at odds with Matthew over his protection of Diana.

Outside of A Discovery of Witches, Duncan is best known for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), About Time, and Gifted.

Ed Bluemel – Marcus Whitmore

Marcus Whitmore is back again as Ed Bluemel, the vampire healer that first met Matthew in the 1700s.

Still working in Matthew’s genetics lab at the end of season two, fans are hoping to see him branch out on his own, but with Phoebe alongside him of course.

Bluemel is also known for Killing Eve, Sex Education, and The Halcyon.

Phoebe Taylor – Adelle Leonce

Adelle Leonce is reprising her role of Phoebe Taylor after she was first introduced in season two.

Phoebe and Marcus have become inseparable, and season three will likely deepen their relationship.

Leonce is also known for Roadkill, Silent Witness, and Strike.

A Discovery of Witches will premiere on January 7 on Sky Max and NOW. A USA release date is yet to be confirmed.
