Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) is determined to put things right in EastEnders next week in the wake of him having lost Phil Mitchell’s (Steve McFadden) fortune.
The former market trader, as viewers will recall, was forced to hand over thirty grand to armed gunman Keith, who held him at gunpoint and demanded the cash.
While he managed to escape the situation with his life intact, it’s safe to say that Alfie is still fearing for his life, concerned that Phil will take violent revenge when he finds out what has happened.
Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace), meanwhile, returns home from her trip away next week, and she’s horrified when Alfie confesses to losing Phil’s money.
He makes it clear that he intends to pay back every penny, and Kat is adamant that he will, as he sets off to sell some electrical items that he’s got his hands on.
But the mission doesn’t exactly go as planned.
Kat, however, takes sympathy on Alfie, as she assists him in selling more dodgy products on the market – but they are forced to pack up in a rush when Honey (Emma Barton) arrives!
Despite the hiccup, Alfie earns a fair amount of money, and subsequently shares a heart-to-heart with Kat.
Afterwards, he tells Tommy that he cannot help with a school fundraiser due to trying to earn back Phil’s cash, but upon seeing how upset his son is he reconsiders – and later gets an idea when eavesdropping on a conversation between Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) and Mack.
Alfie shares his exciting news with Kat, the day before the Christmas light switch-on, and promises her that it’s got nothing to do with Phil’s money.
His efforts don’t go unnoticed, as Kat is impressed with him for rallying volunteers for his fundraising idea, which gives him a glimmer of hope for their future.
