The first official trailer for HBO and Amy Adams’ forthcoming television drama Sharp Objects has been released.
Based on Gillian Flynn’s debut novel, Sharp Objects follows Chicago-based reporter Camille Preaker (Amy Adams), who is sent back to her Missouri hometown to investigate the death of a small girl and the disappearance of another just months after being released from a psychiatric hospital for self-harm.
The first official trailer for the miniseries dropped on Monday (April 23), alongside confirmation the show will grace our screens in July this year.
Check it out below:
The one-minute clip sees Camille (Adams) return to Wind Gap, only to be greeted by her mother (Patricia Clarkson) and sister Amma, who makes a chilling declaration.
“Ma said she saw a ghost once,” she says. “I’m not scared of them ghosts.”
From there, the trailer runs through some scenes that fans of the novel will immediately identify as pretty big clues for what’s about to go down (no spoilers. That’s all we’re saying).
While we see a lot of Adams and Clarkson, the trailer shows us just a glimpse of Chris Messina’s Detective Richard Willis, but we do see a lot more of Chief Vickery (Matt Craven) than expected.
“We need to talk about your daughters,” he tells Adora. “One of them is dangerous, the other one’s in danger.”
The trailer then shows Camille grappling with her cutting habit, Amma getting up to no good and – yes – eventually a brief glimpse at the doll house.
Sharp Objects will premiere on HBO in July in the US.
