An Original Mulan Star Makes a Surprise Cameo in the Live-Action Remake

WARNING: Spoilers ahead.

Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan includes a big surprise for fans of the original film: There’s a cameo from Ming-Na Wen, the actress who voiced the leading warrior in the 1998 animated version.

At the end of the 2020film, after Hua Mulan (played by Liu Yifei) defeats the villainous invader Bori Khan and thus saves all of China, she is presented to the emperor (Jet Li) and the people of the Imperial City by a woman played by Wen. As the two make their way down the lustrous aisle of the emperor’s palace, an instrumental of “Reflection” plays in the background, adding another nostalgic touch to the scene.

Wen’s surprise appearance was sadly short-lived, but viewers nonetheless celebrated the cameo on Twitter.
