On Sunday, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! returned to the jungle after being away for nearly three years. The 10 celebrities all took part in challenges which determined whether they would be heading to the main camp or the VIP Island. Heading to VIP Island was Love Island star Olivia Attwood alongside Chris Moyles, Boy George and Scarlette Douglas. However, after just one day in the jungle, Olivia was forced to leave due to medical circumstances, which Ant and Dec addressed on Monday night’s show.
Opening the show, Dec explained: “Now, as you might have heard, unfortunately, Olivia Attwood has left the jungle for medical reasons and sadly won’t be returning.”
Ant continued: “Now she does feature in tonight’s show which was filmed before she had to leave, we are very sad to see her go and we wish her well.”
Teasing tonight’s show, Dec added: “But we start tonight with four VIPs roughing it on the island and our six celebrities in main camp.”
The news that Olivia had left the show was revealed today after having to leave due to medical grounds.
It was reported that Olivia wanted to return to the camp, however, I’m A Celeb medics informed her that she couldn’t.
On Monday afternoon, Olivia released a statement on her Instagram account addressing why she had to leave the jungle so soon.
It read: “To say Olivia is heartbroken would be an understatement.
“She dreamed of doing I’m A Celeb for years, and was absolutely loving every second of the show and throwing herself into the jungle life feet first (just as we knew she would).
“However, for reasons beyond her control, her journey has been cut short. Your support and kind words have meant the absolute world to her, now as much as it always has.
“You will hear the truth from Olivia in due course and she will be back on your screens in the New Year.
“P.S Who is going to roast Matt Hancock now?” (sic)
A rep for I’m A Celebrity told The Sun: “As a precautionary measure Olivia needed to leave the jungle to undergo some medical checks.
“Unfortunately the medical team has advised it is not safe for Olivia to return to camp as there needs to be a further investigation.
“She has been absolutely brilliant and she’ll be very much missed on the show.”
Before entering the show, Olvia expressed her excitement to take on the challenges as she had been watching the show for years.
Kicking off her short stint on the ITV reality show, Olivia jumped out of a plane at 10,000 feet alongside campmate Chris Moyles.
Before jumping, she psyched herself up and joked: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. just need to get back on safe ground in one piece, [with] both boobs, all the [dental] veneers, everything.”
As she landed on the beach, she expressed: “Oh my god I’m crying, that’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever done, ever.
“That is incredible. Top 10 experiences of my life. Just amazing. I didn’t expect to be landing on a beach – where the hell are we.”
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! airs daily from 9pm on ITV.
