Antiques Road Trip presenter gutted as they make huge loss on £125 item

Antiques Road Trip presenters were left devasted after one of their most expensive finds made a devastating loss at auction.

In the episode, which aired on BBC1 on March 1, hosts Irita Marriott and Mark Hill were going head to head once again – buying bargain antiques in the hope of making stacks of cash at auction

Irita was in the lead following her profits at auction the day before and decided to splash some more cash in the hopes of continuing her winning streak.

The pair were tasked with finding five items to sell – which featured mid-century glassware, pottery and stunning silverware, which cost anywhere between £10 to £125 while on the road.

However, at auction, the most expensive item, purchased by Irita, didn't live up to her expectations.

The 38-year-old had spent £125 on a silver snuff box, after haggling it down from £185 at The Hive, Cambridge – which wasn't one of the shops on the list for the show.

She said it "instantly stands out" as she explained that it was made in Birmingham back in 1918.

When the item came up at the auction, she described it as a "collectors thing" and had high hopes for it doing well.

However, the bidding started at just £60 and only climbed up to £75 before the hammer dropped.

Reacting to Irita's £50 loss, Mark said: "Someone got a bargain there."

Irita added: "I'm disappointed."

But in a surprising turn of events, the cheapest item on her list actually had the biggest win of the show.

The green glass vase cost her just £10 – but when bidding started at £30, Mark cheered for Irita as she was on to a winner.

The pair giggled as the vase was purchased for £70, giving Irita a £60 profit.

"That was an absolutely amazing deal," Mark declared.
