Antiques Roadshow guest shocked to discover value of watch
An Antiques Roadshow guest was left gobsmacked after their watch box was valued at an eye-watering price. After featuring on the American version of the BBC programme which is named Appraisal, the person met with auctioneer Peter Planes.
The pair discussed the watch which was revealed to be a GMT Master Model Rolex. During their chat, the former army veteran admitted he had bought the watch back in the 60s.
Peter delighted the guest when he revealed how much it had increased in value. The watch and the box it was encased in had skyrocketed over the years.
After giving it a detailed inspection, Peter said: “I’m very pleased to tell you that this watch today at auction is a very, very collectible watch. Just the watch on its own merit would be worth today between $35,000 (£27,813) and $45,000 (35,760).”

He left the man astonished by the staggering price of the Rolex. Peter added that the reason why it was worth the huge amount was because he kept the original box.
“But this watch is worth much more because you saved the box and all the paperwork for it,” he explained.
Peter added that with the delicate care for the box and the documents to authenticate the watch, the piece of wristwear would be worth between $65,000 (£51,646) and $75,000 (£59,592) on the market.
He joked that the money would be “probably more than a month’s pay in the military right now”.
